The latest statistics are out from McCarran International Airport, and passenger counts hit a new high of 4,436,756. For those counting, that’s the 4th new record in the last 12 months. Air traffic is up 2.2% over the year and 2.4% for the year to date.
International passenger counts continue to see stronger gains than domestic carriers, with 5.1% growth over the year to date. However, part of this is attributable to recovery from weak international air travel in 2017.
Looking at the top five domestic carriers, Spirit fell into the third place slot after having the second-most air traffic in September. Still, they have now overtaken growing United and contracting American in the course of a calendar year, and their rapid growth indicates they won’t be giving that ground back any time soon. Southwest posted a solid 2.3% gain in passengers but is still essentially flat for the year.
